potato testing - gnome menus

I have noticed that when I installed some packages
(the Gimp in particular) they did not appear in any of
the menus accessed from the task bar button with the
gnome icon. I found the gnome menu editor and tried
it, and found that it did not show all of the menu
items that were found from the taskbar, and it showed
some that were not there.

For example the gnome menu did show the gimp under
system/graphics but this folder was empty in the menu
visable from the task bar.

I tried copying the Graphics directory from
/usr/share/gnome/apps to /home/me/.gnome/apps but
while the gimp menu item then appears in the menu
editor, it still does not appear in the menu from the
task bar.

So ...

1:are app menus supposed to be installed when packages
are installed ?

2:Is the menu editor functional? (I couldn't figure
out how to use it to add menu items, and it doesn't
seem to show what is actually in the menus that are
visable from the task bar).

3: Are these bugs??

Your friendly potato masher.  :->
