In the deep dark past, the "chicken" was a commercial Ada compiler for
SPARC SunOS, if I remember correctly.  Then again, gcc got built the
same way on all but a few platforms (linux, *bsd, lynxos are the only
ones that come to mind, where gcc isn't the "second" compiler.)

These days, you just build gnat as a cross-compiler, to port laterally
to a new platform, and likewise to roll forward to a new release...
