He misunderstands.  The GPL does not force you to contribute back your 
changes.  If you don't re-release the product yourself, you are under
no obligation to do so.  The GPL simply ensures that nobody can
proprietarize it and release the result.

People that take a selfish view of freedom instead of net freedom are
missing the point, because this is never how things have worked and
they never will.
