Actually this has turned out to be an extremely serious bug on some
sub-architectures with PThreads - for whatever reason the pthread locking
functions get into an inifinite loop on particular types of SPARC and M68k
processors.
The CVS APT does not link to pthreads so this is no longer a problem for
APT, but the real issue still exists.
