Very sorry for my poor explanation but you are right.

And this behavior is a bit different of "a2ps --landscape".
a2ps gives us, say, two portrait-oriented A5 size images
side-by-side on a landscape-oriented A4 paper.

Yes, to explain clearly, message become too long to display it :-)
So I think "landscape 2x1" etc. is not so bad because situation
is essentially too complicated to explain in brief messages.
