You don`t want to install all the packages needed for building onto
the main system, because it would gather garbage over time.

What one should do is to setup a second system by extracting a
enhanced base.tar.bz2 system, chroot to it, install/update all needed
packages and build the package there. After the build of the package
throw the system away and start again.

Its space consuming and takes more time, especially for small
packages, but its worth the added security for the main
system. Overall you will save space, because you will only have those
packages installed that are needed and no extra garbage left from some
older compiles.

May the Source be with you.
