I thought that we discussed this previously and were concerned about
compatibility. In principle, it's a great idea. I'd be concerned
about letting people create DEBs that replace key system components
with bogus ones.
I spent some time investigating a method of embedding signatures into
binary files such that an administrator can verify the source of
system executables. The technique works, though it requires a few
more pieces before it can be considered secure.
