As far as I know, we have told our users that mixing packages from
different distributions is safe (in general).
The Debian FAQ says:
* Package A conflicts with Package B when A will not operate if B is
installed on the system.
In this case, the old emacs does not "operate" if libc6 is installed on
the system. This is not the same as being "buggy", it does not work at
all! (it core dumps and exits).
Since it is too late to add a Conflicts line to the old emacs, we have to
add it to the new libc6, because it is in unstable and we can change it.
I don't know whether it is realistic or not (perhaps "Breaks:" would be a
more appropriate name), but until we habe a Breaks: field, Conflicts: is
everything we have.
