I would object if old hamm packages work with the new libc.  In
that case there is no important bug.

May I quote myself:
| dpkg refuses to unpack these packages.  So you need to install the new libc
| first.  Will the old hamm packages work with the new libc?  If so no
| recompilation is required.  If not, they need to be recompiled, of course.

| If older packages will work with the newer libc, the user just has to install
| libc6 first.  This will be automatically handled by dselect and apt-get, right?
