My first job was at Digital (1977), and they had a similar clause in
the papers I was asked to sign on my first day. I asked for the right
to keep the rights to anything I did on my own time at home that had
nothing to do with digital. A sentence to that effect was added to
the paper that I (and the person in personal) signed. So it don't
hurt to ask. Then again, digital was never the kind of hard ass that
MS probably is.
