You mean mirroring them in a news server like Mozilla does? Yes,
sounds like yet another good sollution.

I for one would like us to do the _four_ sollutions proposed up
to now (1: split long archives by week instead of month, 2: use
some better tools similar to what www.egroups.com or dejanews
have, 3: mirror them as newsgroups, 4: once the newsgroups
mirrors are done, have them archived by dejanews & similars)
