IIRC, they use "installpkg" to install a Slackware tgz. That does a
"tar -xvzf" and then executes a script from /INSTALL . It would be the
same as using "dpkg -i". Or they can do it the "hard way" (something

ar -x package.deb
tar -C /root -xvzf control.tgz
tar -C / -xvzf data.tgz

(... perhaps we should document that somewhere...)
