the FSSTND says it's for the conmvenience of the user.
So you can dig your way through /usr/bin, /usr/bin/X11, instead going back
to usr, and then X11R6/bin.
Makes sense to me, although I'm favour of dropping the X11R6 tree at all
(but I don't think it is worth the effort).
