Hypothetical situation number 2:

 a) Gimp developer writes some GPL'd code.

 b) KDE developer uses GPL'd code in app that needs to be compiled with
    Qt.

 c) Debian compiles that app, and distributes it.

 d) Gimp developer sues Debian for distributing app.

This is probably less likely than the original situation I suggested.

Again, it would get laughed out of court.

Why would the Gimp developer sue us?  Shouldn't he go after the KDE
guy?

Software isn't really "free" if the guy who wrote it likes to sue
people who use it.

I think I'll just use GPL.

If Debian wants to use a stupid interpretation of the GPL, then Debian
can do that, and I'll distribute the Qt binary package myself.

Maybe Debian should just get of the contrib/non-free business entirely.
