Imagemagick outdates both (it contains a lot of programs;
"display" does what xv does and is far superior, and "convert"
does what netpbm does and more).
Of course, there is the problem that a lot of programs out there
depend on netpbm; isn't there a way to "port" them to
Imagemagick?
BTW Imagemagick is IIRC a good example of the future. It's a
100% DFSG-free software written and maintained by a company.
