Truely obsolete, but not particularly easy to get rid of. Best bet is:
:> /var/lib/dpkg/info/base.list
dpkg --purge base

Seriously buggy. The standard passwd program has reasonable password
sanity checking built in.

Haven't seen this in a while. Possibly integrated into gimp

Buggy, obsolete. Install dpkg again with --force-overwrite and then
remove adpkg with --force-remove-essential
