Truely obsolete, but not particularly easy to get rid of.  Best bet is:

:> /var/lib/dpkg/info/base.list
dpkg --purge base

Don't know what it is.

Seriously buggy.  The standard passwd program has reasonable password
sanity checking built in.

Haven't seen this in a while.  Possibly integrated into gimp

Should reappear shortly.

Possibly another casualty of the great removing.  Not needed unless you
want to compile libc5 c++ programs anyway.

a.out compatibility that fell out with the great removing.

Buggy, obsolete.  Install dpkg again with --force-overwrite and then
remove adpkg with --force-remove-essential
