Fast Forier Transform.  It's a mathematical algorithm for translating
a signal into the frequency domain.  For example, if you have a sound
signal or an image signal, you can use an FFT to translate it into the
frequency domain where you can easily see the intensities of the
various frequencies it's composed of.  Very important algorithm for
sound and video processing.  Especially important (if I recall
correctly) for some levels of JPEG/MPEG compression.
