As a single data point, I can report that my philips drive works fine with
cdwrite, but I haven't been able to make cdrecord work at all (although it
feels like a configuration problem, I haven't worked it out yet).
It has been my intention to take over the maintainance of cdwrite from
Stephen Early if he is willing (It is currently un-converted to our
current source formate) and at least keep it available for those "old
dogs" like myself who still use it.
