We (still) can't. Braindead upstream sources still have to be repackaged [*].
But we can use pristine sources for all the well-behaved ones.
[*] BTW: Now that dpkg supports it, I think that it would be a good idea
also to repackage now this braindead sources in the GNU style, i.e.
uncompressing into <package>-<version> instead of <package>-<version>.orig.
