xlib6/xlib6g

What's the difference between these two?  Why do they conflict,  and why
do I remember hearing stories of xlib6g breaking a few systems?

I need to install tk8.0,  but I can't without installing xlib6g,  which
conflicts with xlib6 .... around we go.
