I had the exact same idea a while ago... (but I kept my mouth shut) I was going to call this a "Debian-Live" distribution. It would consist of packages (primarily data and documentation) that contained no executables. These could be updated on a "live" basis, with no testing, since they are unlikely to break. Packages like the picons database, the doc-rfc package, journals and magazines could all do into there. This would work very nicely with "push" style incremental updating (my upcoming debdelta protocol thingy). Of course, I kept my mouth shut, since it would just create more pressure on me to finish it off. :-) Cheers, - Jim
