I am the current maintainer. If you are interested, I will tell you if
somebody send me a patch. I don't see the point in keeping open "just to
have something to close" if (by miracle) somebody write a patch and send
it to me.

Again, we have *much* better things to do. I don't want people working on
Debian bugs to waste their time on this one and the only way to avoid this
is closing it. Debian will be better if we concentrate our efforts on
important bugs and not on less important ones, or bugs in non-free
packages.

Ask Ian Jackson to introduce bug priorities in the system, and I would
agree on having this open with the lowest priority available (but "out of
my todo list", as you said).
