You've *vastly* underestimated the difficulty in reverse engineering
the components -- especially without working from the proprietary
drivers...  Consider that there's supposedly an add-on CPU for bus
control as part of this, though I haven't read the spec
yet... consider also that most of the drivers that currently involve
reverse engineering simply aren't very good.  Much better to stomp
this out at the start.
