Alpha status?

I may have a chance to take a 500Mhz alpha and try to load Debian on it
.I'ts part of a 4 machine Beowolf cluster set up as a proof of concept.
CUrrently, RH has problems with the machine. What state is Debian's
Alpha effort in? Should I even bother trying?
