libreadlineg2 install hosed my machine
I noticed that the libreadlineg2 package is now on master and get it
last night to install it so I could configure gdb. When I tried to do
the install it said it conflicted with libreadline2 and quit.
So I removed libreadline2 and tried to install libreadlineg2. This
failed because bash core dumped. I am assuming this is because it
needs the libreadline2 package. I did not notice the new libreadline2
package that probably no longer conflicts with libreadlineg2.
After this I could not ftp to get libreadline2 andtry to install it.
My machine is now hosed. I shutdown the machine and now cannot log in
because it consistently says it can't find the utmp file. Is there any
way I can recover from this??
For more information I did the following to remove libreadline2.
dpkg --remove --force-depends. This is probably very stupid and it
was late when I did it.
Anyway, if there is an easy way to fix this I would appreciate the
information. It took me almost 2 weeks of constant ftping to get
my machine to this point and I really don't want to do it again
if it is not necessary. Any help would be appreciated. I went to
the hamm distribution because I was planning on becoming an active
developer again after a year long absence.
Thanks for your help
