please hold "source dependencies" discussion
Hi!
I just had a quick look at the discussion about source dependencies. This
discussion is growing to big now for debian-devel.
Since this issue will be important and thus discussed at length in the
near future I propose to set up a new mailing list
debian-autocompile@lists.debian.org
(or does someone have a better name for it?). I know Pete is on vacation
for a few days so we'll have to wait until he's back.
About the discussion itself: This topic is very much related to the policy
so I'll have a close look (unless someone else wants to take this job
and knows much about our policy).
The initial idea was to do auto-compiling of packages only on a few
systems to get more experience about it. The topic is way too complicated
and the ideas/proposals still differ too much so that I don't see a way we
can implement this now for all our packages.
Instead, I'd suggest the maintainers intrested in this topic take part in
the discussion on the new mailing list (when it's set up) and try to
develop the basic concepts our new "policy for auto-compiling packages"
will be based on. We'll also test our ideas so we can recognize any
problems soon.
So I suggest to hold this discussion until Pete is back and has set up the
new mailing list for it.
Please stay tuned ...
Chris
