problems with compiling

from my buildlog :

dpkg-gencontrol
dpkg-gencontrol: failure: chown new files list file: Illegal seek
make: *** [binary-arch] Error 29                                 

anybody know, what is not working ?
i started "sudo /usr/bin/build binary" ...
(i use build, because i couldn't figure out how sudo will accept
relative paths in it's config file).

when i ran dpkg-genchanges by hand, everything was alright...

any ideas ?
