The problem with this is that certain rather useful utilities which we
have gone out of our way to get a debian exemption for in the past would
be moved BACK into non-free with this decision. Utilities like zip and
unzip, which are almost vital for some people. While CD vendors "should"
check the copyrights on all packages in non-free, this doesn't happen
often enough. I agree with others that have suggested either a seperate
section for those packages we can place on CD distributions, or a
maintained list of what in non-free is redistributable and under what
terms (only for media charges, not with commercial software, or whatever).
In any event, if we choose the second option, I hereby volunteer to
generate and maintain that list, as I have a T3 at work to download and
look through and screen the copyrights.
