What happened exactly? For watchdog to reboot the system it has to be idle
for more than a minute. Normally it awakes every 20 seconds. Was your system
so busy that it "forgot" to schedule watchdog? I experienced this once with
a system that was way overloaded and couldn't schedule any process because
it was busy swapping.

It might also be that your process table ran full, but than you should get
an entry in your daemon.log file.
