docs file in debstd and compressing....

-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----

Just tried today to get used to the debmake
standards. However, I encounterd two problems...

1) debstd tries to compress all big files in the
   usr/doc tree.

However, fte, the app I'm debianisizing,
compiles it's configuration file from a
tree of human-readable files. The compile
will fail, as debstd has compressed
   some of these files.

Either there should be a way to tell debstd
NOT to compress some of the files, or
then I should just put the human readable
files in a tar file and put a note in
   the README.

2) debstd man page recommends, that I should use
the file 'docs' to install documents.

I have some uprsteam documentation in
   a directory doc/ . Now it's a nuisance,
that debstd will copy these files to
   usr/doc/package/doc ! couldn't there
be a way to tell debstd, where to put the
   files?

I'd prefer, that the docs (and examples)
file would be changed to the following
   format:

"original location"	"location in packet"	"just copy"

sourcedir\documentname	packetdir\documentname	plain

plain should be optional, so that those who don't have problems,
wont have to bother, and if the destination doesn't exist,
just do the way debstd already does!

Just my thoughts...
