Hear, hear!
I've had my system set up according to the Key-Setup mini-HOWTO for more
than a year, and it works great!
IMNSHO, the correct solution would be to make it plainless for new users
to have their Debian system set up according to the Key-Setup mini-HOWTO,
*not* to mess around with Emacs's default keybidings.
