As I stated in another message, since Ian's proposal uses a simple
config file, dpkg would need to stat() each file in that config file
(or test if the files in the config file match any in the .deb)
/before/ unpackaging the archive which would slow dpkg down at least a
little (and maybe a lot on 386 machines).  It's probably worth doing
anyway, but I'm a bit conscerned about performance as dpkg is so slow
already.
