Updates on the Passwd/Group changes proposal

Well, I got at least a few reactions.

I haven't reclassified all the bugs related to base-passwd as I had
problems reaching the UK site tonight.

First, the Qmail UIDs being placed at 65000 don't please everybody.
So what should we do ?
I don't think that comitting 6% of the lower UID space should be a
major problem.

Second, Ian Jackson posted a document in the list entitled
"Static/dynamic uids/gids allocation". Should we take this document
as our policy on that ?

Third, Christopher Lameter <clameter@waterf.org> wants two additional UIDs and GIDs for rex, which shouldn't be a problem.

Fourth, about the majordomo package without a maintainer, as previously written, I'd like to change these entries from:
	/etc/passwd:
		majordom:*:30:30:majordomo:/var/majordomo:/bin/sh
	/etc/group:
		majordom:*:31:majordom
Note the wrong main GID, the inexistent directory in the passwd file and the unnecessary additional group member majordom in the group file (at least, it will become unnecessary once the main GID will be fixed...).
To:
	/etc/passwd:
		majordom:*:30:31:majordomo:/usr/lib/majordomo:/bin/sh
	/etc/group:
		majordom:*:31:
Could anyone with the majordomo package up and running try this changes and tell me it works. Theorically, it shouldn't change anything. Practise might be different :-)

Finally, a system to automate the passwd/group maintenance is definitely possible, I'll work on it as soon as everything is fixed in rex.

I'd like the proposal to be approved ASAP so that we can test that everything works ok.
I'll post a revised proposal tomorrow with the feedback from this, and we'll try to reach a consensus then.

Phil.
