Oops, I had to restart X. I thought I'd already done that a few days ago,
but I guess not. 

Yes, it works fine if they go last. Sorry, I can't help you with your sed
problem..

well, seriously:
whats the problem with creating two packages from the gcc source,
one depending on the other? see libc5 and libc5-dev for example.
i can't see why libc5-dev would want to conflict with libc5 just
to install the same files. likewise with gcc and cpp.

it really looks wierd to mark gcc to install and get conflict
messages because of the cpp package, which i *know* is
needed for gcc to work properly. when i first tried to install
it, i was really puzzled. who argues that gcc installs it's own
cpp when a seperate cpp package is just as well available?
