1.2 Boot Stuff coming up. Breaks ELKS, PCMCIA-CS, IBCS, and DOSEMU.
With any luck, I will be able to upload the following to "rex" tonight:
Kernel 1.2.23:
Just Linus' source, no patches so far.
CONFIG_MODVERSIONS turned ON. THIS WILL BREAK ALL MODULE-PROVIDING
PACKAGES. This includes ELKS, PCMCIA-CS, IBCS, and DOSEMU.
INITRD built in.
Uses zImage, not bzImage. We will switch to bzImage in the future,
but we have to wait until I switch to another boot mechanism than
SysLinux, or SysLinux is upgraded.
Boot-floppies-1.1.2-1:
Uses Christophe Lameter's "mkrboot" package.
COMBINED BOOT-ROOT disk using "initrd".
Modules MISSING from this version - we will need more than one modules
floppy, and the scripts don't understand that yet. Please install the
kernel package to get the modules if you use this prototype.
No changes to installation menu in this version.
Doesn't yet build the floppyless boot for CD and hard disk,
but all of the pieces are there.
After that, I will split up the "base" package into:
initial-passwd: initial passwd and group files.
initial-dev: initial /dev directory.
base: what's left when the above is removed.
Once that upload happens, someone else can take over initial-passwd and
initial-dev, please. These packages require a good system manager, but not
necessarily a hot programmer.
After that, I'll get back to working on the boot floppies and their scripts.
Thanks
Bruce
