dselect user interface



I see that this is being discussed again.

We are all no doubt aware by now that dselect's user interface is not
ideal for novices and that dselect really needs a completely new user
interface for newbies, in parallel with the existing one (which should
be more configurable).

The reason we do not have such a better user interface isn't because
we don't know what to do - I think that we do, by now, or at least
that we have enough information to write a prototype.

The reason is that noone with the time has volunteered to do it.

There is no point discussing your ideas for interfaces unless some
competent and motivated person is going to be there to implement it.
Consider, instead, whether you can be that person.

Sorry to sound so negative, but we've been round and round this
before, and it never gets anywhere because noone actually implements
anything.
