I interpeted this "After copying the kernel from the boot disk to
the hard disk, I run 'depmod -a' against the kernel on the harddisk".
This is also the kernel that ends up on the custom boot floppy that
is created during the install process.

*But*, when I see this error, which is while running "Install
Device Modules" (or something like that, item P on the install
menu), I have booted from the original boot floppy, not the
one installed on my hard disk and subsequently depmoded. I guess
my thought was "Have you depmoded the kernel on the boot
disk?". Do you need to? Do I totally misunderstand what's
going on during the boot/install procedure (quite possible)?

To be clear: when I boot from the floppy created during the install
procedure, or directly from the hard disk, I have no problem running
insmod.
