(I assume you meant "slashes" instead of "dashes", above.)
It seems odd to me that somebody would go out of their way to print an error
message saying "slashes are not allowed" if they are, in fact, allowed.
This is not an undetected error, but rather a misunderstanding on somebody's
part.
