A general suggestion:
Also distribute nnouncements via mirrors. Tell people that mirrors useable
are those from the official list that do carry the announcement, thus
proving that they aren't stale.
It's not perfect, but it's better than nothing.
Oh yeah, and possibly include a file "LAST_MIRRORED" on master that gets
rewritten with the current time stamp every five minutes or so, so we can
see which version of master the mirror has.
Also not perfect (it's only one point in the mirror run), but better than
nothing.
