OK, now I understand why mention of an empty 1.3 kernel package came up. I suppose an empty 1.3 kernel package would be best if you want to tell "dpkg" you're running 1.3 without overwriting your kernel. The purpose of pre-depends is to protect the more naive users, not you. We'll make an empty package for the kernel-savvy users. Thanks Bruce --
