There is a potential problem here: suppose we have bash containing
readline 2.1.3, and a GDB that uses it.
Now, when we upgrade bash it comes with readline 2.2.0 (say) and GDB
&c stop working.
I'm trying to think of a way of sorting out this mess - any ideas
appreciated.
