All of these messages are produced by update-alternatives.  If it
doesn't change the link you'll see something like:
 Leaving awk (/usr/bin/awk) pointing to /usr/bin/mawk.

The quiet option doesn't do anything at the moment, and neither does
the verbose option.  I'm not convinced that they should be made to.
