The current xpm maintainer is unwilling to produce an a.out
compatability package because he is frighteningly busy.

He has, in addition to a full-time job and part-time consulting
commitments, nearly nine months of ncurses bug reports he'd like to
get to before he takes on a single additional package, since he thinks
it might be nice to have bug reports for an important base package at
least looked at before the next major release.

He also has a number of other things he'd like to package up.

He fears that other developers, nice people like Bill Mitchell (who
has done a lot of careful documentation of ncurses bugs), probably
think that he's an unresponsive jerk.

The fact that, if he had time he still wouldn't be inclined to do it
since he knows absolutely nothing about a.out libraries, etc. other
than how to use them is rendered somewhat moot in light of all that.

He points out that he took it over only for the express purposes of
creating an ELF library, since the fvwm maintaner and others seemed to
be stuck waiting for it.

So, he invites anyone who is interested in taking responsibility for
xpm (whether the whole thing or just the a.out compatability
package---there's no reason both have to be maintained by the same
person) to contact him, and take some or all of it off his hands since
it would probably make everyone feel better.

Mike.
