Yep, this works for me also. Really nice! Great for deciding what to get 
and what to skip.
I had tried a variant of the above in the quick cd dialogue box with no 
success. The prompt command above works fine, however, I noticed that 
exiting the directory did not quit the ftp session. It quit when I exited 
with f10. How do I get it to disconnect when I'm done, without quiting mc?
