How many such messages did you receive?

What were the headers like?  [How many distinct Date: entries where
there, for example, across all these messages?  What machines had
these messages gone through?]

There are a number of potential explanations for what you saw, but
without more information, I don't know what is happening.

   And NO, it wasn't me that you thought you recalled.
