Sorry, maybe I was a bit too fast. It is just that I do not use
git-buildpackage.
If you do, feel free to create a new gbp.conf.

What I do with my other packages is to use uscan to check and download
new tarballs, and then use git-import-orig with the --pristine-tar option.
This way, the upstream and pristine-tar branches are both updated and do
not diverge.
