Hi,

first of all, thanks for your interest in packaging this game for
Debian. You might also be interested in the discussion about "what is source for
artwork" from last year which demonstrated a rich culture of diversity
in answering this question.

This is actually a quite complex and controversial topic with many
different opinions. You can find various games in the archive that
deal with a significant amount of game content and they all handle
source files for artwork differently. The best way is to ship all sources
(e.g. GIMP files) for your artwork in one or more source package(s).
In this extreme case of 3 GB source data I would also consider it sufficient
if the data was available at a reliable remote repository and this was
documented in the Debian package (e.g. README.source).

Most importantly, I would only start to worry about this issue, if you
found your sponsor/mentor, then I'm sure that you can find a solution
together with him or her.

Regards,

Markus
