dh_icons

A new debhelper program (dh_icons) was added with 5.0.51, to
automatically update the icon caches (where used) when new programs
were installed. Specific information about the features and
transition plan are included in bug 329460 (0).

My (very basic) understanding is that dh_icons will speed the
loading of images from cached directories when the window manager
supports icon caching (as specified by freedesktop.org).

The functionality sufficiently matches the Ubuntu dh_iconcache
that dh_iconcache has been rewritten to call dh_icons, rather than
remaining a separate implementation (1)

Currently, a number of packages maintained by the team have only
the use of dh_iconcache as a difference between Debian and Ubuntu. I
was thinking of pulling all of these changes into SVN, with the
addition of dh_icons where Ubuntu uses dh_iconcache, but wanted to ask
if anyone had any opinions about the adoption of this feature
beforehand.
