One of the things I was looking at before joining
debian-games was a general purpose installer package, to
handle things like ID Software's doom data, Quake data, etc.
Ideally there would be some common stuff we could use for
all of these tasks. 

I'm going to return to that once I've got a few other things
out of the way.
