Re: desktop-base/ciel and squeeze: plan of action

I had to think of this old Maoist saying: "Those who don't work, needn't eat!"
Seriously, all humour aside, we really should announce a deadline, let's say
5 days from now on, where ppl can have a say by just posting their opinion
here. Also, what difference does it make when more ppl vote? What counts
is that the themes meet the minimum requirements. Debian isn't worse
off with any of the other themes technically speaking. Taste IS personal.
Period.

It'd be just fair to vote. Or at least ask people to subscribe to the
mailing list and tell their opinion.

And who is entitled to vote? The only voting mechanism in Debian is a GR and we
*really* don't want to invoke one of those (and it would exclude non-DDs from
participating).

If there are no objections (and there have been none yet) just leave it at
that.  Or to put it another way, it's up to the desktop-base maintainers.

There is a winner, there are others who lose - I am OK with that. And it is always hard to decide. But to declare a consensus, when there hasn't even been a discussion about it after the contest - this is in my opinion not the way you should do it.

This has been an artwork contest, officially announced in the press. <http://www.linux-magazine.com/Online/News/Debian-Project-Wants-User-Art-for-Squeeze-OS>

I think a bit more transparency in the way of finding the winner would be fair to the people you invited to contribute.

Ulrich
